[For all that his hand is rather more claw-like, Suijin is not afraid. She just holds out her own painted-white hand.]

[Well. On the plus side, she asked. Hakkai gives Suijin a level, somewhat dubious look, and reaches out to take her hand.

The care with which he's doing so, if anyone asks, is less about avoiding scratching her with his claws (which he has bought a very sturdy nail file to blunt) and more about not getting any white makeup on the cuff of his dark green shirt. It might stain.]

Very well.

[Rest assured, Hakkai, her makeup is something of a divine creation. Her ornate kimono doesn't show a single smudge, despite her arm being painted up to the elbow (if one could see that far).

Once she has his hand she clasps it firmly. Just enough to show that she won't easily let go.]

[Suijin smiles back a little dryly herself. She is powerful in her own right and stronger than she looks, but she doubts she could restrain a youkai bare-handed if he were serious about getting free.]

No, Hakkai-san, not a hostage. It is simply a game I have entered into with you.

First, what colour do you like?

[Hakkai is quite certain she couldn't, if he were serious about getting free... but he also doesn't particularly want to fight her. His relationship with her is the least antagonistic of any with Amaterasu's advisers so far, and that's potentially valuable.

Besides, it's convenient to be able to take people by surprise when he reveals his full strength.]

Green. And yours?

[It's a very appropriate choice for a water goddess, Hakkai thinks, smiling slightly.]

I'm not very fond of sweets.

[She smiles. The high mountain lakes that no human has laid eyes on yet; the deep and far waters that only the most stalwart of fishermen have glimpsed- those are a couple of places this colour is seen.

Ah- another gentleman who doesn't like sweets.]

Is that so? The last question, then. What is your favourite thing to drink?

Green tea. Lady Suijin, this feels like a blind date.

[He raises his eyebrows at her with a faintly teasing air.]

[She blinks at him with an faintly confused expression.]
Is it? I have not experienced that for myself.

[Without releasing his hand her gaze becomes a little sharper even through the veil.]
Should I have asked more difficult questions?

[She had purposefully asked easy questions to make this challenge go quickly, but perhaps that was not the way of it? All the same, she asked her three questions, so she will release him in a moment either way.]

Ah ha ha, those questions will do! [He releases his own grip on her fingers, although he's not actually attempting to pull his hand away yet: just signaling that she can let go at any time.]

It's simply a little odd to hold hands while I'm asked about my favorite foods, you see.

[She lets him go and lowers her hand, her head tilted slightly.]

I see. [She supposes it is rather odd to have just about any kind of conversation while holding hands.]

[It really is. Particularly for someone like Hakkai, who's not the sort to hold anyone's hand for long. Not outside of dire situations, at least.
