[Not that he thinks you're weak, Tsuzuki, but have you seen him?]

Sure! The bet was just to arm-wrestle somebody. I don't have to win.

[Plus, Hijikata looks like the kind of brawny guy who might find it fun! And Tsuzuki doesn't want to beat somebody who doesn't like arm-wrestling. That'd just be mean.]

Though, hey, don't count me out.

[Hijikata shrugs a little, as if to say alright, I did warn you, and takes a seat at a nearby table, setting his arm on the table.]

Well, you can try if you want to. It's been a while since I did this, so we'll see.

[With a cheerful laugh, Tsuzuki sits across the table from him, setting his own elbow down and holding his hand out to catch Hijikata's.]

Okay, start on the count of three?

[This is a little stupid. It's kind of...]

[It's kind of nice, that someone wants to do this kind of thing with him again.]

Whenever you think you're ready.

Ready, set: go!

[Tsuzuki strains against Hijikata's arm, trying to shove it over. He's not exactly weak. On the other hand, he's no athlete, and he's been coasting on the unchanging energy of a shinigami's body for a long time. He'd have a chance against your average salaryman.]

[Unfortunately for Tsuzuki, Hijikata isn't an average salaryman. He trained for hours every day even when he wasn't supposed to, and for the last few years, physical fitness has been very much a matter of life and death for him.]

[But, you know, it's no fun winning too fast or anything. He just exerts a slow, steady pressure against Tsuzuki's hand -- slow, steady, and unrelenting.]

[sweetdeath]

[Tsuzuki's not actually weak, but this is kind of like arm-wrestling a robot. Sweat beads on his forehead as he strains against the force slowly shoving his arm back over and down.]

Geez -- how much do you exercise--

[He breaks off to pant for breath, screwing up his face into a determined expression, and heaves.]

Do you mean before I came here, or now that I have free time and my own dojo?

[Yeah, he hasn't been slacking off as far as his own training goes. He lets up on the pressure just a little, enough to almost let Tsuzuki get back to the starting position -- then keeps going, just as steady as before. It doesn't look like he's wearing out at all, though -- just like he's decided to toy with him a bit, if anything.]

So, that's "a lot," then....

[He's still trying! He is, however, definitely getting his ass kicked. No question about that.

At least he's got enough pride to make Hijikata work a little for it....]

Can't spend all day answering prayers.

[He adds a brief burst of power, easing Tsuzuki's hand down a couple of inches further.]

Well, I mean, you could....

[Ow ow ow, his arm's getting close enough to the table that trying to push back against Hijikata's strength is starting to hurt his shoulder. He makes one last desperate effort, and then caves, giving up his resistance and letting his hand thump hard against the tabletop.]

I give, I give!

Satisfied now?

[Okay, so he looks pretty pleased with himself. It's nice to win now and again.]

I guess I was asking for that, huh?

[He rubs the back of his hand, pulling a tragic face. He actually was asking for that, literally. He just didn't realize that Hijikata had quite as much arm strength as he does.]
