[Okay so. Shun's not actually going to say anything yet, he's just going to stand there and stare. Really critically. Like he's trying to figure out exactly how he's supposed to go about this.

It's pretty obvious he's taking this about a hundred times more seriously than it actually warrants, but if he's decided he's going to do it at least this once he might as well do it properly.]

[That seriousness over such a trivial subject is pretty endearing, to be honest, so Ren makes sure to keep his smile mostly tucked away behind his hand and just silently stares back so Shun can concentrate.]

[It's not much of a way to hide it, as far as Shun's concerned, but he supposes Ren's trying. Sort of. In any case, after a moment, he steps forward, getting much closer to Ren and more specifically looking at his face this time.

And then his eyes narrow slightly, and he reaches out a hand. If Ren doesn't react, Shun is likely to be pulling one of his eyes slightly open, like a doctor might when shining a light into it.]

[Whoa there. Kurosaki Shun is actually getting up into his space for once? And they're not sparring? That surprises him more than the hand going for his eye.

It speaks to how much he's come to trust Shun that he only barely flinches, and that's mostly just to look surprised by him getting so close. But not too surprised; his eyes are one of his better traits, after all (so good on Shun for noticing).]

[Shun might have a sense of personal space when it comes to himself and not leaving himself in attack range of others, but he actually trusts Ren so that sense is rapidly disappearing where he's concerned.

Still, Shun's attention turns from the eye briefly to note Ren's facial expression.]

Why are you making that face? [The eye thing should've been pretty obvious as soon as he lifted his arm (or so he thinks), so he can't see why it would be that.

Returning his focus to the eye, Shun looks at it from a few different angles before letting it go...and then reaching out with the intent of grabbing one of Ren's long forelocks. Sorry, Ren.]

[As long as Shun doesn't tug on it too hard, he's perfectly fine letting him grab his hair, too, and he soon goes back to smiling and watching Shun do his research with amusement.]

I didn't expect you to have to get that close to decide if you think I'm cute or not.

[He does pull on it a bit, but only hard enough to tip Ren's head down a little so he can look at the top of his head and his ponytail.]

You're acting like we've never been close before. [You fight him all the time, Ren, clearly this is the same thing. Clearly.] I don't normally pay attention to that sort of thing, so I'm catching up.

[That's definitely one word for what he's doing, though he's absolutely not helping his case by moving a hand with the apparent intent of tipping Ren's chin upwards as soon as he lets go of his hair.]

[Ah, he'll have to move his hand, then, so Shun can have an easier time of grabbing his chin. Since it's not like he's going to stop Shun from tilting his head all around, because that just gets funnier the more he does it..]

If you're not usually paying attention, then that isn't the same thing at all.

I am paying attention usually, just to the details of the fight and not what you look like. It can't make that much difference. [Granted, he'd probably feel very different about that if it was being done to him, but for right now he's just going to assume that isn't the case.

And tilting Ren's head around is exactly what he's going to continue doing, because after he tips it up, he moves to turn it to one side.]

[Ren goes along with the tilting for about two seconds, then he reaches up to take Shun's hand and help tilt his head the other way.]

This is my better side.

[And then he reaches out to brush Shun's hair out of his face, despite it not actually blocking his view at all. Just because he can.]

Well, it doesn't really make much difference to me, no. But that doesn't mean they're the same.

[As is typical of Shun, he twitches slightly at the contact, but doesn't resist the guiding to turn Ren's head the other way. He does, however, shoot him a somewhat dry look.]

They look the same to me. [Ren can take that how he likes.

He's about to focus on the changed side when Ren reaches out to brush his hair away, and for a moment, he freezes, either instinctively or because of not knowing how to react. The recovery is quick and smooth, but Shun still looks a little confused as he tries to go back to what he was doing.]

If it doesn't make a difference to you, then I don't see why you're that adamant about it. [He's just. Going to pretend like that didn't just happen, because he feels like it'd be giving Ren an opening for something he's currently not entirely sure of.]

[He will definitely be taking that as positively as possible, especially since its a nice change from the various photographers who informed him of his "good side" in the first place, so that comment just gets a pleased hum out of him.

Or maybe its the way Shun freezes when he's the one having his personal space be invaded. It's probably both.

As for why he's "making a big deal out of it"...well, for one thing, Shun is really the one who started it, as far as he's concerned, but also...]

Because I keep imagining the look on Asaka's face if she were here to see this. She'd have a heart attack.

[Shun is apparently still in the process of inspecting the side of Ren's face - even though his actual gaze is more in the area of Ren's neck now - but his brow furrows a bit when Ren mentions that name. He's heard Ren mention a few of his friends by now, but he doesn't recall this being one of them.]

Sounds like an overreaction. But I don't have any idea if that's normal for her anyway, if she's another one of your friends from home. [Some people just overreact to everything. Or at least overreact by Shun's standards.]

[Ren hums a little in agreement that it would be an overreaction, but he just looks incredibly fond as he thinks about it. Asaka just wouldn't be Asaka if she didn't overreact to things like someone else bringing him coffee--or, in this case, Shun grabbing his chin and getting very, very close to his face.]

Ah, Asaka is very fond of me, and she gets jealous of the people I like very easily. She'd definitely be trying to kill you with her eyes from across the room.

[As stunted as Shun might be on the front of romance, there's only one kind of "fond of" he can think of that usually triggers that kind of behaviour, and he gives a very faint scoff as he tilts up a little again, this time more obviously looking at Ren's neck and throat.]

If she's in love with you, then she needs to learn what's actually worth getting jealous about. There's a difference between friendly and romantic behaviour. [He thinks. Probably. Either way, this isn't what he'd consider worth getting jealous about.]

[Well, don't mind him but he'll just be casually brushing his hair back from his neck so Shun can have a better look. For research purpose, of course.

And wow he actually caught on to that much...and then completely missed why that would make Asaka jealous of what is going on right now. Like, Ren is under no illusions as to Shun's intentions here, but to anyone passing by this would not look like "friendly" behavior. He might not think about this sort of thing much either, but he at least knows that.

...Maybe he should be nice and finally enlighten him to that.]

Kurosaki, of those options, I don't think "friendly" is the one this looks like.

[Well, if Ren's letting him continue then he sees no reason to stop, and as Ren moves his hair, Shun turns a little so he can get a better view. There's not really much left to look at, honestly, but since they're in the middle of a conversation he might as well use that space to cover more ground, so to speak.

When Ren makes that remark, though, Shun stops in his tracks. He doesn't exactly look outright surprised, but he does look a little wrong-footed...however, he also doesn't move back any, instead just turning his attention back to Ren's face.]

If you think it looks like that, you could've stopped me from doing it. [...Okay, so he didn't actually ask, but he would've backed off if Ren had been uncomfortable with it.]

I have no idea. Maybe 5.

[Maybe 6. Maybe 7. Why is he doing this anyway.]

[Come on, he has to tease Yuto at least once today.]

[Pause, pause, pause.]

...Then four... [...] Out of five.

[The rating sure has changed. Well, it's not like it matters right.]

[Well, Ren does have very nice hair...]

Numbers aside, the truly impressive thing about you is your patience!

That's nice of you to say! I've worked really hard on that!
